Out and Up – 505 Collins Street – Full Façade Refurbishment

Situated right in Melbourne’s CBD, the refurbishment at 505 little Collins St breathed new life into its original 1980, 12-level commercial office building. The project involved a full façade upgrade elevating the previously under utilised and noncompliant spaces, into an area which can now be used by tenants and the public.

Alclad played a key role in this multifaceted redesign, replacing the building’s combustible ACP façade with durable solid aluminium - an ideal choice that seamlessly complements its city surroundings. The buildings’ main entrance was enhanced with the introduction of a canopy featuring, a stepped design with knotwood cladding and skylights adding further depth to its architecture. Functionality was improved with the installation of operable doors & floor to ceiling glass windows allowing natural light to flow throughout the lobby area. The transformation included the activation of the unused rooftop terrace area, unlocking prime retail and amenity areas with breathtaking city views.

This once abandoned space will now serve as an important value proposition for attracting and retaining office tenants while also significantly boosting the return on investment (ROI) for our investors by an impressive 70%.

This project underscores the potential of revitalising older building structures, which aligns with sustainable practices, emphasising the environmental and economic advantages of refurbishment.
